    • If you're into coffee, chances are you're familiar with the terms "Arabica" and "Robusta." Both are a type of coffee plant, and both are the two main juggernauts that together make up 99% of the commercial coffee world. Up until now, we sourced 100% Arabica coffee. Today though, we'd love to introduce you to a third type of coffee plant: Excelsa!

Featuring taller trees with deeper roots systems, the Excelsa plant is the climate resilient coffee tree that is paving the way for the future of coffee in a changing world. It's a hardy variant that grows well at lower altitudes (similar to Robusta) and can withstand droughts much better than other types of coffee plants, thanks to those deep roots. It is also pest resistant and fares better against the rust diseases now cutting yields across the globe.

The main difference that you'll notice is that Excelsa has 30% less caffeine than Arabica coffee. In terms of taste, this does seem to make the cup less weighty and incredibly smooth. If you're looking to cut back on your caffeine intake without sacrificing any flavor or having to resort to decaf, this is a great solution!

Done to a Full City (light) roast, expect a balance of jammy black cherries, dark chocolate, and dried fruit. Full bodied up front but with a remarkably clean finish. A must-try for all coffee aficionados!
