Upcoming Tasting Notes:
The Story of Autumn's Gold: Autumn’s Gold is the cider house’s flagship cider, one that highlights the characteristics of true European bittersweet apples: smoke, warm spice, damp leaves, leather and ripe, ripe apple. The first batch of cider Autumn & Ezra & James ever made was named was Autumn’s Gold. Why? Because after 9 months of fumbling around with no idea what they were doing, they disgorged the bottles a week before their grand opening and poured out a stunningly beautiful, rich, golden colored cider, redolent of the orchard floor after harvest and declared it was “Autumn’s Gold’ and nobody could argue. That golden liquid is the ideal that Eve’s – both the farm and cider making operation -- is built around. ~Autumn Stoscheck, Cider Maker/ Orchardist
Kinero Cellars ‘Alice’
From the limestone hills of Paso Robles (Adelaida & Willow Creek District) comes this 100% Grenache Blanc named after the winemaker’s Grandmother, Alice. This graceful Grenache Blanc is whole-cluster pressed and then racked to concrete and terra cotta tanks. The resulting wine expresses aromas of cantaloupe, Asian pear, and wet slate. On the palate; vibrant flavors of lime, brioche, grapefruit peel, and just a hint of rosemary evolve into a crunchy mid-palate that fans out on the long lingering finish – that stays focused with a wonderful vein of salinity throughout. This beauty of a wine is a delight to pair with a cheese plate loaded with soft, creamy cheeses (brie, camembert), garlic herb chicken or a roasted white bean stew.
Victor Hugo Viognier
Victor Hugo Roberts is the owner and winemaker of his family’s small vineyard and winery. Just in case you are wondering; Vic was named after a great uncle and a great grandfather with no reference to any literary connection.
In 1982, equipped with an enology degree (U.C. Davis, 1979), and 3 years of winery experience, Vic took a position at a new winery in the Paso Robles area. The dream of owning his own vineyard and winery took its first step into reality in 1985 when he and his wife, Leslie planted 15 acres on their Templeton property which had their family home and a 100 year old barn among the acres.
Victor Hugo Viognier (vee-oh-neigh) is wonderfully unique with aromas tending towards honeysuckle and ripe apricots, intertwined with elusive hints of almond blossom in the background. Rich, silky mouth feel comes from the barrel fermentation plus months of passive lees contact. This Viognier will enhance soft ripe cheeses, spicy Asian cuisine as well as seafood selections such as scallops, oysters, and lobster.
Grape Abduction Orange
Gönc winery is a family tradition going back to 1936, when Peter Gönc’s great grandfather built their first wine cellar and planted the vineyard around it, in a small town in Slovenia. Today Peter, as a third generation winemaker, enjoys crafting serious wines and also some light-hearted ones like the Grape Abduction wines. For this skin contact white wine he blends aromatic grapes for an expression that is easy to embrace. Inviting aromas of ripe golden apple, quince, sweet brown spice, and hints of honey. On the palate, the wine is round with notes of apricot and pear. Pair this wine alongside spicy Asian dishes, a cozy Indian curry, or Moroccan tagine.
Victor Hugo Malbec
Malbec from Paso Robles, California. Inspired and intrigued after a family trip to Mendoza, Argentina Vic decided to plant a large portion of his vineyard to a grape he had taken quite a liking to. After learning more about what the grape needed to thrive in his Templeton Gap vineyard site he planted more vines and became known in the area for his varietal Malbec. Layers and layers of aromas and flavors: hints of red berries, wild sage and ripe plum are intertwined with subtle oak notes. The berry and plum flavors are balanced with layers of pleasantly assertive tannins overlaid with hints of oak. The finish is lush which enables additional aging. While enjoyable currently, this Malbec will continue to improve with proper cellaring for another 3-5 years in the bottle with a plateau of best drinkability from 2028-2033.
Pairing with dinner? You have lots of options, here are a few suggestions: rosemary-infused lamb loin, Italian dishes with red sauce or a charcuterie board filled with firm cheeses and dried meats.
Domaine Chateaumar Cuvee Vincent Cotes du Rhone
The Castel Mar (Châteaumar) estate dates back to the 11th century. The vines at Domaine de Châteaumar are currently farmed organically by father and son team Jean-Felix and Frederic Souret. The estate is located 9 km from Orange, in the heart of the Côtes-du-Rhône AOP. The vineyards include 12 acres in the prestigious northern plain of Châteauneuf-du-Pape on red clay with large round galets, and 25 adjacent acres in Côtes-du-Rhône on stony clay-limestone soils.
Cuvée Vincent is made from 50+ year-old vines growing on two parcels bordering Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Its unusual composition of 100% Syrah imbues it with the smoky aromas and meaty, savory flavors more associated with the legendary wines of Hermitage and Côte-Rotie in the Northern Rhône, but it stays vibrant with notes of cherry, blackberry, blueberry, and dark spices. A rich and complex Cotes du Rhone that will elevate a wood-grilled ribeye, roast duck, braised lamb shanks, game, or a hearty casserole.
Domaine Chateaumar Cuvee Bastien Cotes du Rhone
Cuvée Bastien, named after the winemakers’ son, is made from a single vineyard of 50+ year-old Grenache vines located within Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Rich, fruity, and elegant, with classic Châteauneuf Grenache character, and a ripe and open-knit structure that makes its black cherry, spice, graphite and sweet earth accessible and appealing.
Besoain Cabernet Sauvignon
This family vineyard grows on a unique terrace over the Maipo River at 650 meters (2,132 feet) above sea level, Los Morros area, foothills of Andes Mountain. The soil consists of a geological formation of colluvial and alluvial sediment. The pebbles provide the necessary drainage for the great development at the root depth. With a semi-arid Mediterranean climate, high exposure to sunlight and the influence of the winds that come down the Maipo River Valley from the Andes mountains, the vines are kept aerated by natural cooling at night and achieve optimal ripening.
This Cabernet Sauvignon is a delight! And it over-delivers with amazing complexity at its price. Intense aromas of blackberries and cassis, complemented by subtle warm vanilla notes. A harmonious balance between fruit and structure is evident, with hints of chocolate and ripe plum. Well-integrated tannins provide a silky texture and a long, elegant finish. Winemaker’s paring suggestions: enjoy it with aged cheddar, a grilled steak or just in a glass, reading an epic book!
