This fair trade certified coffee comes to you from UCA San Juan Del Rio Coco, a group that represents the combined efforts of 8 small cooperatives (aka over 370 small producers of coffee)! Medium bodied and full city (light) roasted, this bean offers a decadently creamy, low acid cup with notes of caramel and dark chocolate.
Fine coffee, not as flavorful as the Indonesian beans but we like to have coffee from different regions. My wife was initially disappointed, but after adjusting the coffee/water ratio she pronounced it excellent.
My wife and I live in Northboro and are working our way through all of Armeno's coffees a pound at a time (well not the $60 Jamaican and Kona's.. theyr'e too expensive).
Thusfar we've had Black and Tan, Mocha Java, Brazil Bourbon, Wachusett blend, House blend, and now this Nicaragua San Juan (la Minita lb. is next).
This San Juan Del Rio is excellent. Very smooth and creamy, there is a chocolately taste, and nearly no aftertaste. I do NOT have the pallet to discern hints of cedar smoke or other things that often get noted, but I can tell you this is very tasty coffee, and perfect for the morning pot.
Out of what we've tasted, only the Mocha Java is more flavorful in both my wife's and my opinion
Very enjoyable brew. There was a slight smokiness I wasn't expecting which made for a unique taste. Tried both cold brew and drip...thought it was better suited as a hot cup.
